The identification of genes is one of the initial steps for analyzing sequenced DNA data and thus essential for modern microbiological research. As part of a research team led by scholars from the University of Greifswald, we contributed to the development of the tool GALBA based on the AUGUSTUS tool. To achieve this, we utilized our expertise in software development within the scope of the GAIUS project to enhance the software quality of AUGUSTUS. The resulting library, pygustus, is a crucial component of GALBA, as it enables, among other things, the easy parallel execution of AUGUSTUS. The complete publication, including details about GALBA, has been accepted for publication in the BMC Bioinformatics journal. A preprint is available on bioRxiv.
