StipSys – an electronic scholarship system
A small team located in the city of Passau works on the StipSys project. Responsible for the project is the Chair of Distributed Information Systems. Its research mainly concerns content regarding security, privacy and web development.
StipSys, short for the German words "Stipendien System" (scholarship system), is an electronic administrative system for creation, editing and management of scholarships.
The project itself consists of a webservice, which enables participating universities to freely configure scholarship blueprints. The execution of all scholarships is fully automatic. The project puts special emphasis on the promotion of data privacy and security of users, embedded by the GDPR resolution of the European Union.
An administration of scholarships consists of multiple processes; for instance, the creation of the scholarship itself or the application and selection of students regarding certain selection criteria have to be managed. To ensure a fair selection of the applicants, the collection of various private data is essential. The goal of the project is a full automatic support of all necessary processes and also the management of various challenges relating to digitalization. This can be seen in areas like data privacy and security or an improved usability and accessibility for users.
The project is financed by the Bavarian Ministry of Science and Art. Some German universities and further scholarship sponsors have already adopted StipSys. The hosting, maintenance and further development of StipSys is conducted in Passau.
