Research & professorships
The Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics (FIM) offers a wide range of nationally and internationally renowned scientific expertise. It continues to strengthen the existing subject areas of Data as a Raw Material, Security and Cryptography, Efficient and Reliable Software Systems as well as Algorithmics, Modellingand Approximation and is establishing a new specialisation in Artificial Intelligence Engineering.
These five areas form the rough structure and guiding principles for the research directions of the professorships of computer science and mathematics. The focus is part of the university's specialisation in Digitalisation, Networked Society and (Internet) Cultures and reflects the research mandate from the High-Tech Agenda of the Free State of Bavaria. These are supported by institutes such as PIDS (Passau Institute of Digital Security) or FORWISS (Institute for Software Systems in Technical Applications of Computer Science), which offer interfaces to industry as well as to other faculties.
The results in the THE rankings show the high performance and quality of the faculty. 23 W3 professors, 5 W2 professors and four W1 professors, approximately 135 research assistants and more than 90 student assistants form the backbone of the faculty in research and teaching.
