Curriculum vitae Prof. Weispfenning

Volker Weispfenning was born in 1944. He studied mathematics at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, 1963-1968.

1986 Visiting Professor, University of Dortmund,
1986-87 Heisenberg Scholar.
1987-2007 he was full professor (C-4) at the University of Passau. He was a long term member of the editorial board of the "Journal of Symbolic Computation" and of "Computational Complexity", and was a long-term board member of the German "Fachgruppe für Computeralgebra".

Since 2007 Professor Weispfenning is emeritus.

He is author of more than 70 research papers in algorithmic algebra, algebraic model theory and applications. He is coauthor (with Thomas Becker) of the monograph "Gröbner Bases" (Springer 1993), coauthor (with Th. Sturm) of the textbook "Algebra und Logik" (in preparation), coeditor (with D. Saracino) of the collection "Model Theory and Algebra" (Springer LNM vol. 498, 1975) and coeditor (with J. Grabmeier and E. Kaltofen) of the "Handbook of Computer Algebra" (Springer 2002).

Current research concerns efficient elimination methods, Gröbner bases theory and their practical application.
